The 2025 AREG calendar competition is open to amateur photographers of all ages. The theme is ‘Renewable Energy Around the Clock’.  The top 13 entries will be published in the calendar. Closing date for entries is Monday, 30 September 2024.

The sustainably printed calendars will be distributed to a wide network of stakeholders across Scotland.

Theme

AREG’s ambition is for North-east Scotland to be recognised as a world-leading centre of excellence for the production and use of renewable energy. We have a wealth of renewable energy sources in Scotland, with emerging sectors such as floating offshore wind, hydrogen and geothermal energies all adding to that rich mix.

Our annual calendar provides a platform to showcase that diversity and we are looking for creative, imaginative images to fill its pages.

The theme of this year’s competition, ‘Renewable Energy Around the Clock’, was designed to demonstrate how different renewable energy sources contribute to meeting energy demands 24/7.

Submissions can include images that highlight the diverse mix of renewable energy that will be needed to decarbonise our energy system by 2050. This includes wind, wave, tidal, hydrogen, solar panels, heat pumps, electric vehicles, or anything else the photographer chooses. Entries can also showcase how renewable energy technology is integrated within the Scottish landscape and local communities, including homes, public buildings, and open spaces.

Prizes

In addition to having their photograph featured in the calendar, the 13 winners will each receive £75. The winning images will also go on public display at Aberdeen Science Centre.
