NHS Grampian provides NHS services for the half-million people who live in the Grampian area. Our property and energy needs vary across a mixed asset base, ranging from large complex acute facilities to smaller remote and rural properties.
We strive to lower our carbon footprint and to test and develop new and innovative ways to provide our ongoing 24/7 energy requirements. Our main energy centre at the Foresterhill Health Campus was opened in 2011 and includes a 1.5MWth biomass boiler as well as a 5.3MWe gas turbine CHP with waste heat boiler, and backup dual fuel boilers for resilience. This facility continues to provide a resilient and efficient energy service to the health needs of our campus and patients. Through the investment in this technology we have been able to reduce our carbon emissions by approx 16% and our energy spend by approx 21%. As our site continues to develop, we have ambitious plans for the further use of this capacity including the extension of our district heating system and high voltage network to the Royal Cornhill Hospital site.
