The local authority area includes the port of Buckie located on the south side of the Moray Firth and a number of businesses that could provide highly skilled engineering and fabrication services to the offshore renewable industry.
The Beatrice Demonstrator turbines in the Moray Firth are currently serviced from Buckie Harbour which is home to successful manufacturing, ship-building, boat repair, cargo handling and fishing businesses. The presence of two MOD bases in the area also provides a steady flow of skills into the local labour market that are well suited to the offshore renewable industry. The traditional fishing industry associated with the ports of Moray also brings a wealth of knowledge and skills in skippering and seafaring. The area is well located being within one hour’s drive of both Inverness and Aberdeen and around three hours from Edinburgh and Glasgow.
